Why You Should Visit Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas. Check It Out Here!

Red Rock Canyon

On a recent trip to Las Vegas I was able to explore nearby attractions and Red Rock Canyon was one of them.  While I mentioned this destination on my recent blog entry I thought it deserved a blog entry of its own.

Where is Red Rock Canyon you ask?

It is in southern Nevada, USA just west of Las Vegas.  If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend you add it to your itinerary .  It provides an exquisite scenery.  Just off highway 159 aka Blue Diamond Road, there is a side road leading to this beautiful tourist attraction.  Shortly after entering this side road you’ll arrive at a toll booth which charged us $7 USD to enter this conservation area.  Above you can see a photo of the Blue Diamond Road on the left and the Red Rock Canyon on the right.

Why should I visit this place?

If you’re an avid hiker, rock climber, or cyclist this conservation area is tailored to your desires.  If you just happen to be in the area and want to take-in as much of the landscape as possible, it also has lots of beautiful scenery (photo opportunities) to offer.  Once you enter the Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area you’ll quickly notice that you’re on a one-way road.  This 13 mile (21 km) road winds around the base of the rock formations and has several stops to park and go for a walk/hike or take some photos.

Tips

  • Make this an early destination to enjoy it with as much sun light as possible.  They open at 8am so make the most of it.  If you’re just driving through it with the occasional stop for photos it won’t take longer than 3o minutes.
  • If you plan on driving through it and stopping for a few photos like I did, I highly recommend renting a convertible (weather permitting).  The views with the convertible’s top down are stunning!  Check out the video below for proof!

Final Thoughts

This was a great place to stop, admire, and take some photos.  I’d recommend this to anyone going by the area.  For what we used it, Red Rock Canyon was a great ‘filler’ attraction between our other stops.  The scenery you’ll have the pleasure of seeing and that amazing drive on the twisting roads will be forever etched in your mind.
